Steven Holl Architects’ Herning Center of the Arts

The first ground broken for Steven Holl Architects’ Herning Center of the Arts announced lately from the press center of Herning Center of the Arts. The official beginning of the construction work was on Monday 25 of June at 12.30. The Location of the center is in Birk Centerpark, Herning, Denmark.

The Building site is 12.000 m2 and the gross area is 5.500 m2. The project will include permanent and temporary exhibition galleries, a 150-seat auditorium, music rehearsal rooms, a restaurant, a media library, administrative offices and an active landscape. The timing of the finished building is scheduled for the turn of the year 2008/2009.

The Herning Center of the Arts will serve as the home to the Herning Art Museum, Ensemble MidtVest and Socle du Monde. Each of the three institutions has a strong international profile in its own right, and with the common framework, synergies between the visual arts and the spheres of music will serve as a strong driver for the entire mid-Jutland region.

Steven Holl Architects won the international competition for the Herning Center of the Arts in November 2005 with a design fusing landscape and architecture in a one-level building.
Steven Holl established STEVEN HOLL ARCHITECTS in New York City in 1976. Steven Holl has been honored with architecture’s most prestigious awards and prizes. In 2003 he was named Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British and Letters selected Steven Holl to receive the Arnold W. He has won Brunner Prize for Achievement in Architecture as an Art as well.
